What does an MEP engineering firm do?
An MEP engineering firm designs a building’s mechanical (HVAC, ventilation, controls), electrical (power, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm), and plumbing (domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, fire protection) systems. Progresíve Engineering produces signed and sealed, permit-ready construction documents and supports projects through bidding, construction administration, commissioning, and closeout.
Where is Progresíve Engineering located, and what areas do you serve?
We are headquartered in Gainesville, Florida, with team members in Central Florida, and we work on projects statewide — from the Panhandle to Miami. Our principal engineer is licensed in Florida (PE #92111) and in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Nevada.
What types of projects do you work on?
Healthcare facilities, higher-education and K–12 campuses, government and municipal buildings, arenas and assembly venues, houses of worship, multifamily and residential developments, offices, restaurants, utility and central plants, and RV parks — both new construction and renovations of occupied facilities.
What power system studies do you perform?
We model electrical systems in EasyPower and perform load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination (time-current curves), arc flash analysis per IEEE 1584-2018 with NFPA 70E labeling, harmonic analysis per IEEE 519, motor starting, and voltage drop studies. We also install power quality meters to validate models against measured conditions.
What is a 30-day load study, and when do I need one?
A 30-day load study records the actual peak demand of an existing service or feeder. When one year of utility demand data is not available, the National Electrical Code (NEC 220.87) permits using a continuous recording of at least 30 days to establish the existing load before adding new equipment such as HVAC, EV chargers, or tenant fit-outs — often avoiding an unnecessary service upgrade.
What is an RCDD, and why does it matter for my project?
An RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) is a BICSI credential for designing telecommunications infrastructure. Our RCDD-led team designs structured cabling, MDF/IDF rooms, pathways, grounding and bonding, security, and specialty technology systems so your network is reliable and ready to grow.
Do you design solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging?
Yes. We design rooftop, ground-mount, and canopy solar PV systems, battery energy storage (BESS) and microgrids, and EV charging infrastructure — including service capacity evaluations, load management, utility interconnection support, and integration with standby generation. Our experience includes a 1 MW solar integration where the point of interconnection was selected by fault analysis.
Can you help with existing buildings that have poor or missing drawings?
Yes — field verification is central to how we work. We survey and trace existing systems, document conditions against record drawings, and identify deficiencies before design begins, which reduces change orders and surprises during construction.
